Sound options related to harmonic plates

My ligatures do not alter the sound characteristics of your mouthpiece but will notably enrich the overhaul musical esthetics. The increased oral sensations and defined nuances notably augment the performing pleasure.

We did numerous sound comparisons, with different pro players on many different horns. Following are the general comments:

  The new Evolution #4 Ligature

On this new model, the hard rubber harmonic plate is thinner and narrower. The sound is noticeably more focused and centered. It is as loud as the Québec version, equaling the number of harmonics surrounding the fundamental. Fast attacks & greater articulation are still present. The metal band has a rounder shape and is by far my best ligature of all time.

The Evolution #4 metal band is only available in Satin finished – Natural, Silver plated or 14K Gold plated.

  The Woodstock Ligature

This thick harmonic plate is made from granadilla, an African black wood, the same wood used for quality clarinets. Every note sounds large, clean, and rich with many audible harmonics enveloping the fundamental. The resulting audio illusion is akin to a chord.

  The Québec Ligature

The harmonic plate of this ligature is identical in shape to the Woodstock ligature but made of high-quality German ebonite. Sounding as large and full, but with a faster response and improved articulation. In the recording studio, 3 harmonics were audible, both above and below the fundamental.

  Sound options related to finishing

The finishing of the metal band also has an audible effect on the sound.

  • The Satin finished model: Raw brass sounded dark, round with plenty of harmonics. Very close to the gold-plated model.
  • The Un-Lacquered model; highly polished sound the same as the Satin model. Only cosmetic difference.
  • The Satin & Silver-plated sound brighter with some edge. Great to play with an electric musical setting.
  • The Silver plated : Same as Satin & Silver plated.
  • The Satin & 14K Gold plated sound the same as Gold plated.
  • The 14K Gold plated model sounded the best, round, very warm, full of harmonics with a richer tone.

All my ligatures are engraved at no extra cost.

Also note that brass has a natural gold color.
